Guide to Managing Employees in Probation

Why use Probationary periods for your new starters?

Starting a new job can be challenging for employees, and probationary periods allow them time to adjust to their new role and work environment. It gives them an opportunity to learn and grow in their job, and address any areas of improvement identified during the evaluation process.

Employers use probationary periods as an opportunity to assess whether the new employee is a good fit for the job and the organisation. It allows employers to evaluate the employee’s skills, performance, and behaviour in the actual work environment, and determine if they are meeting the expectations of the role.

Probationary periods often involve additional training and orientation to help new employees become familiar with their job responsibilities, company policies, procedures, and culture. It allows them to acclimate to the workplace and gain the necessary skills to perform their job effectively.

If things don’t work out it also gives you, the employer, the protection from potential risks if you do dismiss during probation.
