Does one particular employee cause you no end of issues?

99% of employees toe the line but there is always one that is the bane of an employer’s life.

Managing employees, who cause you lots of problems, can be really stressful and challenging.

With a myriad of complex Employment Law responsibilities on your shoulders, it is all too easy to retain a problematic employee through fear of being taken to an Employment Tribunal.

However, the impact that one employee can have on a whole team can be so detrimental to your other staff and productivity levels in the business.

So what do you do when you know the right decision is to dismiss an employee?

As long as you have a valid, justifiable reason to dismiss an employee and you follow a fair process each step of the way, you will minimise risks of the employee taking you to an Employment Tribunal.

If you fail to follow a fair procedure and if cannot provide a justifiable reason for their dismissal, the costs and management time defending a claim can cripple a small business.

With that in mind, I have written a handy guide called “Do’s and Don’ts to Dismissing an Employee”. Within the guide is a step by step process for proceeding with Disciplinary action, together with a checklist of things you should and shouldn’t do when dismissing an employee.
